The 4 Ps of Marketing

On a theoretical level, marketing is often defined under 4 heads – known in certain circles as ‘the 4Ps’. These essential marketing elements usually need to be intermingled within an online framework to deliver a complete, return-driven, focused marketing campaign on an ongoing basis. But even with offline marketing, it’s important that the various elements of the marketing mix are given due consideration just to ensure that you’ve got all the bases covered.  More…

Reasons Marketing Plans Can Fail

Reasons Marketing Plans Can Fail

One of the most frustrating aspects to business is when you have all the marketing tools your business needs, perhaps even some your business does not need and yet you still see no results. You may even be spending time and effort marketing your business and yet conversion ratios and traffic remain constant or even drop. The reasons why marketing plans fail are numerous however; one of the primary reasons is that it was not the right marketing plan.

Every business is different and that includes businesses that sell the same products and services. Every business has something that is unique, the group of people they are targeting, the area they are working in, the options they have available to them. These different aspects mean that the same marketing plan is not going to work on every business.

When a marketing plan fails, it is important to find out exactly why it failed first. The reason or reasons are is essential. It may be that there is only one aspect of a marketing plan that failed, it may be multiple items or it may be the entire plan.

Research

Research is an essential aspect of marketing and inadequate research is one of the biggest pitfalls that can affect a marketing plan. Research provides a wealth of information that is vital to the success of a marketing plan. Generally, research is done on the target market. If a target market is not known, research is done to determine what market is going to be the most likely to benefit from the product or service provided by your business.

This is the group of individuals you will want to target and in some areas there may be multiple groups. While it may be possible to market to all these groups it is, in most situations better to market to a single group or groups which contain a large percentage of similar traits. This makes it easier to consolidate a marketing plan as well as eliminates a significant amount of research, time and effort.

The second aspect which needs to be researched for a marketing plan to be successful and is also one of the reasons why marketing fails to produce appropriate results involves research competition. Researching competition is not just about researching the prices of a competitor. It includes noting things such as lay out, finding out what marketing techniques the competitor is using and how often these tools are used for example.

Many business owners and beginning internet marketers fail to note anything more than price and perhaps general layout. As a result, they are missing vital information that can save time, money and effort when it comes to setting up their own marketing plans. It is also important to keep in mind that you want your business to be unique from your competition.

Get a good idea of the types of deals, offers, discounts and promotions that your competition uses and offer something different to help your business stand out. Many people simply do what their competition does. In doing so, they often lower their marketability and their marketing plan can ultimately fail in this area.

Marketing Tools

Having enough research to create your marketing plan is only the first step in solving the problems that often cause marketing plans to fail. The next step is to take the time to pick out the right tools. Having the right tools for the job is essential to ensuring you get the most out of your marketing strategies.

Marketing tools have diversified over the years. Tools are not limited strictly to email and promotional options. Video, social networking, SMS texting, in addition to email and promotional marketing tools are also available. The increase in available options means that there is a greater spectrum to work with. It also means that picking the right tools is more important than ever.

Pick tools that are going to be easy for you to use, require minimal maintenance but provide you with maximum potential results. This will help to prevent your marketing plan from joining the ranks of those that have failed. Knowing the right tools to use can often be a trial and error process. The important thing is to avoid one of the reasons why marketing plans fail. In this case the reason involves putting too much into a single marketing tool.

Action, Action, Action

One of the biggest reasons why marketing plans end up failing is the lack of action. Marketing is an active part of your business, it is not a set and forget aspect of you business. In order to ensure that a marketing plan succeeds you must be actively engaged in working that plan. This means that email marketing messages should be updated and redesigned regularly.

SMS messages should be rewritten after very send. These messages should be short, contain only the minimum necessary information. It is important to remember that SMS marketing is relatively new and involves sending messages to mobile devices that often indicate repeat messages.

Videos should be produced, edited and updated to as high a level as possible. Computers and technology can turn just about any computer into a production studio with the right software. Keep videos interesting, engaging and relevant. The videos should be related to the company, the products or the services offered.

It is important to set up a marketing schedule and find out how much time, generally through trial and error that you need each day, week or month to handle all your marketing tasks and keep everything up to date.

The reasons why a marketing plan might fail are numerous. Some of these reasons include, failing to do the proper research into the market, the competition as well as the tools available. Other reasons can be failing to have enough tools, having too many tools or not using the tools you have effectively. Taking the time to make sure that you have the information you need as well as putting in the effort to ensure your success can go a long way to eliminating these reasons.

The Value of Social Bookmarking

The Value of Social Bookmarking

Marketers are thrilled when someone decides to Digg their most recent article. What does it mean to Digg and why should you care? Good questions.

At one time you might have visited a website and saw a link that said, “Email to a friend”. This was the extent of delivering content you appreciated to others. Today you have all kinds of ways to let others know about content you like. You can easily place a link to the content on Facebook.

Other Social Bookmarking Sites

While not comprehensive here are several sites that can allow others to intentionally or unintentionally help drive visitors to your site include…

Del.icio.us
Stumbled Upon
Techorati
Seed Newsvine
Reddit!
Yahoo!

The Simple Dynamic

Social media has become one of the great milestones in Internet history. People can connect with friends, family and classmates with an ease that places other fee based services at a distinct disadvantage.

Search engines have held most of the cards when it comes to a search for products and information, but they may be surrendering part of the deck to social bookmarking.

What this process does for the user is allow them to share information they have personally read and really like with people who share a similar background and interest. The implications of this dynamic are that individuals might be more inclined to ask trusted friends for advice on products, information and even vacation destinations. Their social media friends will likely have information better suited to their likes and dislikes because they know them better than a one size fits all search engine.

It might be possible that social bookmarking could be responsible for a rethinking of Internet search functions.

How to Bookmark

In many blogs and news posts you now have the option of clicking an icon that boosts the social bookmarking status of the content you just read. This encourages site visitation and provides a service to friends who follow you in social media.

This is non intrusive and infinitely better than all those undesirable forwards we all receive via email.

By placing icons that link your content to bookmarking you can allow site visitors to help you market your site. This is an advantage to those websites that have dedicated themselves to content development focused toward information consumers. Their diligence pays off in what can become a viral article as friends share the content with friends in an expanding social media network.

Some marketers have even shifted directions and are developing their content on sites already geared toward social bookmarking. WordPress is one site that does just that.

Part of a Multi tiered Strategy

This strategy may be new to you, but some of the old rules still apply. By constructing your content with accepted Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies you appeal to search engines where general queries provide proven enhancements in traffic. If you add the ability to bookmark the content socially you then appeal to a unique set of searchers.

In online marketing you will find the combination of multiple strategies can provide great opportunity in reaching potential buyers. Secondarily, the backlinks in social bookmarking also provide a greater trust factor for search engines looking for a good reason to elevate your site rankings.

The U.S. is Catching Up to The World in the SMS Marketing Race

Mobile marketing is marketing directly to consumers through SMS messaging, leveraging the growing number of mobile phone owners and users. Mobile (or text) marketing is predicted to be the next major global technology phenomenon, and to a certain extent it is already used across Europe and Asia by businesses of all sizes to deliver targeted marketing messages on a wholesale scale.

Mobile marketing business consultants and service providers already have access to the frameworks for dealing with SMS text marketing, yet still the US market remains behind much of the rest of the world in mobile SMS marketing.

The US is surprisingly far behind when it comes to utilizing available mobile technologies. While the Internet is very much the domain of US business, in mobile communications the US seems to lag some way behind the rest of the world. There are 36 countries in the world that have over 100% per-capita usage of mobile phones, including many otherwise poor and indebted nations. The US, for whatever reason, isn’t one of these countries.

Forecasts predict that the US will reach the 100% mark by 2013, putting it behind many other countries already far beyond that level of market penetration. When we examine the statistics, the US is currently sitting at 86% per-capita usage, compared to Taiwan’s 106%, the UK’s 120%, Italy’s 140% and 150% in Hong Kong and Estonia (this means that there are more mobile phones than people). This also means there is still some way to go before the US is ‘in’ as deep as many of its European and Asian counterparts. However, this may mean that mobile marketing in the US has an even longer lifespan at maximum responsiveness, while the penetration of the technologies reaches the levels of other nations.

There are still gaps to be exploited in mobile technologies in the US. This doesn’t mean that the effectiveness of SMS marketing is reduced, rather it may give it a level of exclusivity that makes it even MORE effective. As noted earlier, signs are showing that the gap in overall mobile phone penetration between the US and Asia is closing. For advertisers, this means the mobile marketing business is still in it’s infancy, but looks like it is here to stay. For those looking to jump on board, the rewards for being an early adopter may prove even more valuable.

With mobile marketing, business owners across the world are realizing the benefits of this kind of promotion on their bottom line. The mobile marketing business looks set to continue to grow at a rapid rate over the next few years. Consumers in the US are yet to be fully exposed to marketing through SMS, and as such are still very responsive to message passed through this medium.

Indeed, when compared to broadcast and print marketing, the results are staggering. As such, it’s only a matter of time before the mobile marketing business in the US catches up with the more established mobile marketing business sectors in Europe and Asia, which will provide advertisers with a whole world of new marketing possibilities.

Online Business Advertising Tips

There are lots of different ways to earn money over the Internet, but one thing is constant – you need a website to get you started. A good online marketing plan starts with an effective website that has the potential of attracting a good number of daily visitors and therefore, more chances for advertising and marketing the business.

But just having a website is not enough. You will have to put into consideration a lot of factors before you can start feeling like you have a potential gold mine in your hands. Not all websites are created equal, but there are usually some similarities in the most effective ones. Make sure you check out your competitor’s websites to see what you like and what you don’t like. Try to look at it through the eyes of a potential customer rather than through the eyes of a competitor. Either way, make sure you are happy with your website before you exert all of your marketing efforts into promoting it.

Here are a few online business marketing tips that you can use to help you start your Internet money making venture.

1. Do your market research.

It’s not enough that you have thought of a great business idea. You must make sure that there is an actual need for what you are going to be offering and cater your business plan towards meeting that need. If there is no need, it has very little, if any, chance of succeeding.

2. Find your true target audience.

Your entire business plan should be built around who you are attempting to sell to. Gain all the demographical knowledge you need before building your website. If your target market is males from 18-25 years old, focusing your advertising efforts in the AARP website will have little effect. Likewise, your product created for retirees would not generate much interest from your ad on Myspace. Find out who is most likely to purchase your product and then learn how best to reach them.

3. Start search engine optimization efforts immediately.

It’s a smart idea to get your search engine optimization (SEO) campaigns started as early as possible and to keep them consistent. The most effectively optimized websites have taken a natural and organic approach towards this kind of marketing. It can take significant amounts of time to achieve results through the search engines, so start early and keep after it. If possible, build your website with SEO in mind.

4. Consider sponsorships.

This can be done both online and offline. You can participate in contests and sponsor the prizes in exchange for promotion for your website. You can also do it in the real world. For example you can help fund a certain organization’s activity in order to create brand recognition. Again, keep your target market in mind. Make sure the members of these organizations fit into your demographic.

5. Advertise.

Once you have determined your target audience and learned how to reach them, focus your efforts and marketing budget completely on that area. Contact other site owners that are in a similar field and ask if they offer advertising slots. Create an affiliate program to encourage others to place your ads on their sites in exchange for commissions. Be as visible as you can to your target audience and you will soon be the first brand that pops into their mind when they are looking for what you’re offering.

Using these tips is only a start, but doing them effectively will likely lead to a surge in your site’s daily traffic and it should continue to grow. More importantly, these will likely be targeted traffic – just the kind you’ll need to make it in the ever-growing online business field.

If you’re unsure of where and how to get started, our Logic Path marketing club offers one-on-one internet marketing consulting and marketing solutions as a part of each membership. Learn more here.

The Importance of Marketing Software

http://ping.fm/9ViwK

Most businesses today use some sort of marketing software to help them with their day to day operations. In fact many companies would find it hard to exist without one because they have learned no other way and an absence of this computer program would mean a great loss to their revenue.

In this age of computers and the Internet, few businesses can properly compete without utilizing at least some form of marketing software program to help them with their tasks. For one thing, such a computer program helps them automate certain operations. Therefore it is a great savings in terms of manpower. They are also relatively easy to learn and implement. This lessens the possibilities of committing human errors because unless there are bugs in the system or if the software was fed with the wrong data, using such a program is practically fool-proof. Their ease of use also means that it takes far less time to learn how to use them, so the release-to-market timing of new products and offers can be much shorter.

There are many parts of the marketing phase as well as other aspects of business that can be delegated to a computer program. For example:

1. Email Marketing Campaigns
For companies who are involved in list building, there are many types of business software programs that will specifically and automatically send out email newsletters to their list of subscribers. If you are receiving some product offers or newsletters in your inbox, chances are the company that sent you those emails is using this kind of computer program. Many of these programs offer segmenting and tracking tools that are often not available when using other types of advertising avenues.

2. Data Analysis
Some software programs help marketers analyze their data and give them specifics details in a faster and much more accurate way. This can be very helpful because it lessens the menial tasks of pouring over the figures and data. This allows the marketer to focus their attention on making the right business decisions without wasting any time. They are able to react quicker to the changes in the marketplace by getting the results of their data and research with less effort. This data can show them what̢۪s working and what̢۪s not, allowing them to tweak future campaigns for maximum effectiveness.

3. Search engine optimization
With today̢۪s opportunities for businesses on the Internet, there are now a plethora of marketing techniques that can help a company launch a new campaign on the internet. One such technique is search engine optimization. The goal of these campaigns is to make sure your website is near or at the top of the search results for searches related to your industry. This leads to better product coverage, higher brand recognition, greater publicity, and allowing the marketing message reach as large an audience as possible.

There are many other types of marketing software that can be used to make business tasks more efficient. Any business that is not taking advantage of them is likely putting themselves at a huge disadvantage with their competition.

Generating Traffic Using Twitter

Most people know that Twitter is an awesome way to keep current on what’s going on in the world these days. Whether the goal is to keep up on the latest specials from your favorite businesses or to simply keep up with your friends’ lives, Twitter is a great tool. Interestingly, most people claim to be annoyed by the term ‘tweet’, yet studies show that the site is still growing in popularity

Using Twitter is easy, even if you’ve never done it before. After you have created an account, you can add short messages (less than 140 characters) simply by typing them in. These messages, or ‘tweets’, are sent to everyone that has become one of your “followers”. If you find other people or businesses you’d like to keep up on, you can choose to be a ‘follower’ of them, and you’ll be updated whenever they add a new post.

Due to its rising popularity, it’s quickly becoming an effective way to get more visitors to your website and another form of online marketing. More and more businesses and individuals are using it to increase traffic. If you know how to do it, you can do the same.

There are several reasons why this is becoming more common:

*It’s user-friendly. Anyone that knows even the basics of computers and the internet can easily use it.

*It’s widely accessible. People can use it from any computer or even their cell phones. They can get updates from anywhere. They don’t need to carry around stacks of coupons anymore. They can just go to Twitter from their phone and see if any new specials have been posted from the business they are about to visit. This is a great way to enhance your current marketing solutions and efforts.

*Its instantaneous. Most users are constantly checking for updates. It has become a pretty big part of their lives. And if they happen to ‘follow’ you, that makes you a part of their lives as well.

*Its popularity is growing. Thousands of people are joining Twitter every day. And if I’ve only learned one thing about society in my entire life, it’s that a majority of the people in the world like to ‘keep up with the Joneses’.

The first step to take in order to increase your website traffic is to simply gain new followers. Like the proverbial tree in the forest, if you’re tweeting and no one is there to listen, it’s not really making any sound. One of the easiest ways to gain instant followers is to notify your other network sources. If you have an email list or a list of business contacts, let them know that you’ll be updating your Twitter account more often. If you don’t have this option, start following other people or businesses the same or related field. Many of these users will follow you in return, and if you add interesting or informative tweets properly, the word will spread.

Once you have a number of followers, you want to make sure you use your tweets wisely. Don’t waste time by talking just to be heard:

*Keeping your relationships current. Whether they are clients, business contacts, or friends, Twitter can help you keep your followers updated with your latest news, just as following them will keep you updated on them. This type of two-way communication will likely lead to a better and long term relationship. You even have the option to follow-up or ‘re-tweet’ their tweets through other lines of communication. This kind of effort will likely lead to good things down the road.

*Announce new product releases. If you have a number of followers, Twitter is a good way to announce a new product, website, or offer. You can also use it to slowly build up excitement about an upcoming release or announcement.

*Website updates or changes. If there is anything new or different on your website, even if it’s something as small as a new article, spread the word on Twitter. This will likely cause your followers to visit your site again even if they are regular visitors. This will help you with your online marketing and search engine ranking.

*Become a valued resource. If there are things going on in the world that interest you or might interest your followers, spread the word. People like gaining valuable or interesting information and they may just pass your tweet around to others rather than doing their own.

Whether we like it or not, Twitter has become a practically essential part of living in the 21st century. The numbers show that it’s becoming more popular every single day. A business is doing themselves a disservice by not utilizing its potential to grow their website traffic.

Wireless Crucial for Most Small Businesses

According to the ‘Small Business Technology Poll’ done by AT&T, wireless technologies are becoming more and more crucial to survival for today’s small businesses. This poll indicated that almost 2 out of every 3 business owners feel that they couldn’t even survive without these technologies. This is a 25% increase from the same poll done 3 years ago.

Despite the economic recession, very few small businesses have cut back on their use of wireless technology. Most even expect to rely more on wireless technology over the next two years, indicating its growing importance among small businesses.

The survey also found that small businesses appear to be cautiously optimistic about a turnaround in the economy. About two-thirds of businesses plan on spending the same or even more on technology overall in 2010 as they did in the previous year.

The growing dependence on wireless technologies is likely to continue to increase going forward, as about three-fourths (74 percent) of survey respondents said they expect to depend on it even more two years from now.

For more info, please visit the AT&T News Room here.

If there was ever any doubt about the need to adopt wireless technology into your business, this poll might move towards removing it. Mobile technologies are here to stay and are becoming a mainstay of small businesses everywhere.  Please click here in order to keep ahead of the game with your own custom mobile marketing solution built and managed by Logic Path.

B2B Marketing Strategies

Marketing in the business-to-business (B2B) arena is a completely different game than its consumer counterpart. ‘Buy one get one free’ offers simply won’t have the same effect when you’re dealing with professional clients. While it can be tempting to try and market on lower price and the traditional consumer value points, it’s important that you take control of your marketing and direct your efforts more towards delivering true value to the businesses you’re serving.

Flashy sales letters might be hottest trend when it comes to direct marketing to consumers (especially online), but bright red headlines designed to capture a prospect’s attention aren’t nearly as effective when it comes to pitching to business clients. Instead, a much more personalized approach to marketing that sees you integrate your services into their business plan will deliver value to both sides. This makes you each a more valuable asset to have on each other’s side – whether you’re selling toilet paper or legal services.

Think about it for a second – professional buyers are used to being pitched on the business value and common sense underlying a particular deal, and will as a consequence be most reluctant to give in to any overt pressure sales tactics. Remember – for the most part, the clients you serve in a B2B market will have their own sales function, and will already be familiar with the tricks of the trade. Sell to these clients as they want to be sold to – not as your current processes permit. That means allowing the buyer to make up his or her mind, with you simply acting as a facilitator to make it happen.

That’s not to say you should be setting a rigorous face-to-face appointment schedule with all of your B2B clients (although some industries may demand this as standard practice). Instead, you should attempt to build and foster relationships with your clients on a personal level, while ensuring you continue to provide goods and services that make sense both financially and in terms of their quality. Email and telephone conversations usually suffice, and the impact of consistently delivering on your promises for clients certainly plays a massive role.

B2B marketing online is a softer process, working best when it’s built in around your existing marketing strategies. Tactics like email marketing and mobile marketing can be effective, but only if you target business owners correctly. Getting your website noticed and enhancing your online brand is the first step, but the real struggle with pitching to B2B clients is getting to ‘yes’ and seeing the deal through, which more often than not is a much more involved, personal process.

Even more so than consumers, business customers will quickly spend their money elsewhere if it represents a better value proposition. This means that it’s absolutely essential to build defenses around your business and the services you offer to grow a sustainable, long-term enterprise. Integrate your services into each of your clients’ respective business plan and act like an extended member of their business team rather than a salesperson. This is usually the best and quickest way to achieve true success with commercial clients.

Please click here for details about the Logic Path B2B marketing club, where we’ll help you create, manage, and improve your marketing campaigns.

Staying Committed to Your Plan

Starting a business is easy. Anyone with a few dollars and an idea can start one. Keeping motivated and committed is what sustains it and keeps you ahead of the pack. It can be tough to do, especially when things are not going so well. Following are some tips to help you in your quest to keep committed:

1. Set realistic and measurable goals. Without doing this first step, there’s really no reason to continue. If you want to create a business that’s there for the long haul, make sure you know exactly what you want to do and how soon you expect to do it.

2. Keep your goals in mind. Remind yourself what you want to accomplish. Don’t let the mundane daily tasks keep you from your vision. You might find it helpful to write down these goals and put them in a place where you’ll see them on a consistent basis.

3. Be flexible. The best business plans are the ones that are adaptable to a changing marketplace. Make sure your goals and methods can easily be changed if conditions call for it. Most of all, you must be willing to change. Don’t forcibly squeeze yourself into a one-size-fits-all hat when there may be other options if you keep your eyes open.

4. Stay persistent. The flexibility mentioned previously is important, but so is a level of persistence. Don’t be so quick to bail on a method if it doesn’t produce immediate results. Some marketing techniques, such as search engine optimization, can take months before seeing the fruits of your labor. Stick with these types of techniques until you are positive it will never be of benefit to your vision.

5. Keep it interesting and fun. Try to make your pursuits an enjoyable task. You probably started a business with the idea of being your own boss. This should be a motivating factor as you move forward. Even if your business is slow to grow, at least you aren’t answering to anyone but your customers.

6. Surround yourself with supportive people. It much easier to stay committed to something if you have a good circle of people on your side, whether they are investors, friends, family, or even customers. Remember that most people that are critical of your business likely work for someone else and thus has no right to do so.

7. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Most people get into a small business thinking they can do it all themselves. This is extremely difficult, if not impossible. Starting a business is a huge undertaking and it’s normal to require help. Doing it on your own might seem like it would be more rewarding, but not if it takes too much time to make it successful.

8. Review your accomplishments. If you’re having a bad day or feeling like you aren’t getting anywhere, look back at all you’ve done since getting started. Write it down. By the time you’re finished you’ll probably be surprised at all you’ve done. Keep this list handy and keep updating it with new accomplishments. Eventually all this work will probably lead to more profits.

9. Expand your horizons. Try to find ways to enhance your current products or services. Look at your competitors to find out what they are doing differently. Always be expanding your mind and your business will likely follow suit. This type of effort can also keep things more exciting.

10. Most importantly…Stay positive. A positive attitude goes further than you thing and can be a great help in keeping you motivated. This goes for both your business and your personal life. Treat each disappointment as an opportunity to learn and grow in order to do it better the next time.

Following these tips alone will not make your business a success, but they likely are a necessary part of your plan. Don’t underestimate the power the mind has in helping a business grow.

If there was ever any doubt about the need to adopt wireless technology into your business, this poll might move towards removing it. Online Business Advertising Tips

There are lots of different ways to earn money over the Internet, but one thing is constant – you need a website to get you started. A good online business starts with an effective website that has the potential of attracting a good number of daily visitors and therefore, more chances for advertising and marketing the business.

The Importance of Marketing Software

This data can show them what’s working and what’s not, allowing them to tweak future campaigns for maximum effectiveness.

3. Search engine optimization
With today’s opportunities for businesses on the Internet, there are now a plethora of marketing techniques that can help a company launch a new campaign on the internet.

Due to its rising popularity, it’s quickly becoming an effective way to get more visitors to your website.

*Become a valued resource. If there are things going on in the world that interest you or might interest your followers, spread the word. People like gaining valuable or interesting information and they may just pass your tweet around to others rather then doing their own.

Whether we like it or not, Twitter has become a practically essential part of living in the 21st century. The numbers show that it’s becoming more popular every single day. A business is doing themselves a disservice by not utilizing its potential to grow their website traffic.

Tactics like email marketing can be effective, but only if you target business owners correctly.
